The IIE Rosebank College Pretoria Mega Campus along with its Graduate Empowerment Program hosted the second annual Entrepreneurs and Innovation workshop for students and graduates on Thursday, 31st August 2023.
The workshop was filled with aspiring entrepreneurs, innovators, youth business owners as well as speakers who are experts in their different fields. Some of the speakers were those who founded business, co-partners, organizational and company representatives.
Business founders shared their personal experiences on having business as well as how they started and sustained them. One of the business owners shared their experiences on how they manage business as well as a 9 to 5 job. The Managing Director of Bukhobuhle Architects Pty Ltd Blessing Mbuli who was also a student with the IIE Rosebank College Pretoria Mega Campus and now a lecturer mentioned that owning a business and having a job is not easy.

“It is not easy to run a business and also be working a 9 to 5 type of a job cause in some of the days I get sleep deprived because the work I have at times. How ever I make it a point that I make it work by taking some time off when I can even that day is enough so I can also spend time with family since family time is what many entrepreneurs do not take seriously”, says Managing director of Bukhobuhle Architects Pty Ltd, Blessing Mbuli.
A representative from the National Youth Development Agency Patrick Sibeko who is the Outreach officer shared the importance of the NYDA to the youth. He mentioned that the NYDA aims to focus and support entrepreneurial youth who were looking for funding. “The NYDA’s aim is to fund youth in order for them to participate in the economic development and be able to solve community issues, poverty challenges, inequality and other issues that can add in developing the economy”, says National Youth Development Agency outreach officer, Patrick Sibeko.
Company Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) representators both gave out insightful information on company registrations as well as the tax compliant information. These included tips from Sanlam’s financial advisor Khotso Letsoalo who said both personal and business financial planning are important.

The founding director of LALE Communications, Landiwe Manana shared the power and importance of mentorship and networking as a young aspiring entrepreneur and individual. She briefly shared how the power of networking and mentorship helped her business to be sustainable. Manana mentioned that she has now partnered with the Public Relations Institute of South Africa. “Network as much as you can and it starts now”, founding director of LALE Communications, Landiwe Manana.

Students, graduates, aspiring entrepreneurs as well as those that own and co-own businesses were given full insight into starting or sustaining their businesses to grow. A question-and-answer session was conducted shortly after the event. Students were able to engage further with the speakers and one of the students Prince Mokwena commented saying “I am not an entrepreneur yet however, after the information I got today from experts and business owners I am confident enough that I can be able to start my own business and have it sustained for a long term”.
Those who might have missed this year’s segment of the entrepreneurships and innovation workshop can attend the next one in 2024. However, the Graduate Empowerment Program mentioned that they will be hosting a career expo on the 20th and the 21st of September at the IIE Rosebank College Pretoria Mega Campus.
