History has been made again by electing Beyonce’s album as first ever album of the year for the “cowboy Carter”, making her the first black women to achieve this feat in the 21st century in America. This journey marked a good moment for Beyonce’s career, which has been filled with numerous Grammy wins and nominations.
Kendrick lamar also took home five awards, including song and record of the year for “Not Like Us”. Other notable winners included Chappell Roan, who won best New Artist, and Doechill. Who won Best Rap Album for “Alligator bites never heal”. Also, Charlie XCX received three awards, including the most unknown one of the evenings: Best artwork. That may appear strange at first.
Kendrick lamar now holds 22 awards which is like the best thing ever. When he went to collect his grammy he said on stage “This what is about man cause at the end of the day nothing is more powerful than rap music, I don't care what it is, we are the culture.”
Producer of the Year, Non-Classical is Daniel Nigro, Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical Amy Allen, Est Pop Solo Performance "Espresso" – Sabrina Carpenter, best pop duo/ group Performance Die with a Smile" – Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, with Chris brown winning the best R&B album. Tems wins Best African Music Performance at the Grammys for “Love Me Jele”
This year’s Grammy awards tried so much to be as fair as they could, they have made efforts to increase diversity and representation in recent years.
The academy has expanded its voting membership and implemented new rules to promote inclusivity, but then more work still needs to be made to deal with the systemic biases and inequalities that persist in the music industry.
