The South African Police Service confirmed on Monday, the death of a police investigator who was a leading investigator for Thabo Bester’s prison escape. The incident occurred in Bloemfontein where the investigator allegedly shot himself dead.
This incident took place later after the Bloemfontein High Court dismissed Nandipha Magudumana’s application. The application was that court declares her deportation from Tanzania along with her lover Thabo Bester unlawful.
It was said that the late investigator, Brigadier Jackson Mkhaulesi (59) was present at that court proceeding in the early hours of Monday before he was later found lifeless in his vehicle.
The SAPS national spokes person Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the circumstances surrounding Mkhaulesi’s death are to be investigated by the police and that this matter will be subjected to the police. Brigadier Mathe continued to say, “In-house employee health and wellness experts, which include chaplains, have been dispatched to provide psychosocial services to the family and colleagues of the deceased member,”.
General Fannie Masemola, national commissioner of the SAPS who worked closely with the late Mkhaulesi said that Mkhaulesi has been a dedicated SAPS member for 31 years. Masemola also said that Mkhaulesi was a hardworking as well as loyal public servant.
“Over the years he has proven himself to be a highly skilled detective with a wealth of experience and knowledge in the detective environment. His departure leaves a void in the SAPS detective environment,” says Masemola.
