Mzansi Youth Choir to Contend Finals at America’s Got Talent.

Mzansi Youth Choir is set to contend at the America’s Got Talent season 18’s finals happening end of September. Mzansi Youth Choir will battle against the 17-year-old blind Indonesian song writer, Putri Ariani.

The Mzansi Youth Choir, which is from Soweto, as well as Putri Ariani from Indonesia, made it through the finals after nine eliminations of other acts who were also part of the talent competition. The Sowetan choir made it to the finals after its performance of Fleetwood Mac’s “Everywhere”.

“I am happy for the South African choir, but I was hoping that for the Finale’s it will be Warrior Squad and Putri. At least Putri went through”, @carmine.2x commented on Instagram.

The South African Choir performed the late Nightbird’s original song “it’s okay” for their first performance. The owner of the song “it’s okay” performed the song in 2021 when auditioning. This performance earned the Mzansi Youth Chior an extra Golden Buzzer from judge Simon Corwell.

"I believe this act is outstanding. You can't help but be drawn in by your enthusiasm and performance style. It's a cliché, but this stage may make or break you. Tonight, you were made.", says Simon Corwell.

The late Nightbird received a golden buzzer in 2021 and died of cancer the following year 2022 at the age of 31.

Mzansi Youth Choir forever”, says @lynnsanter on Instagram. Some of the judges such as Sophia Vergara thought the Mzansi Youth Chior’s semi-final performance was spectacular.

Not all the America Got Talent fans were happy of the Mzansi Youth Choirs win. “Sorry this act didn’t deserve to go through. Theres nothing special here warriors squad got robbed they used Nightbirds song to get sympathy for votes how lame no one is going to Vegas to see some choir”, says @briana_raposo on the Mzansi Youth Choir’s Instagram post.

The America’s Got Talent’s final will air on 26 September 2023
