The Democratic Alliance (DA) has officially declared Solly Msimanga as its Gauteng premier runner. The announcement was made on Wednesday at Hallmark House in New Doornfontein, Johannesburg.

As the party steers it’s election campaign prior to the National General Elections in 2024, the DA saw it fit to make this announcement. In making the announcement the Democratic Alliance leader, John Steenhuisen mentioned that as they go into their 2024 National General Election campaign, the know for sure that “the African National Congress will not get the 50% in Gauteng the next coming elections”.

The DA leader continued to comment that “previously, we knew for certain that the ANC would win Gauteng. Now, we know for certain that the ANC will lose Gauteng.”, says Steenhuisen.

Steenhuisen portrayed their new Gauteng premier, Msimanga as someone who merges experience, determination as well as enthusiasm in an equal rate. Msimanga who is from Atteridgeville has previously served as mayor of the City of Tshwane, he was also a leader of the official opposition in the Gauteng legislature and now a leader of the DA in Gauteng.

Msimanga mentioned when he was re-elected as the DA Gauteng provincial leader in August that services were collapsing throughout the province and that people wanted a change of government.

“The party’s focus is now on our political opponents, so the DA can wrestle the province from the ruling party”, says Msimanga.

Steenhuisen mentioned that the party needed to campaign not only on the ruling party’s insolvencies but also on grounds of the DA’s vision to save Gauteng.

“Our job is to make sure that the candidate we are announcing today is inaugurated as Gauteng premier two weeks after the next year’s election. For the first time ever, we are not fighting to be the official opposition in Gauteng. Next year we are fighting to govern Gauteng”, says Steenhuisen.
